The Odd Book of Dark Cuteness is a themed mini scrap album I made for my friend Évi. (It took nearly a year to finish it:)). The book includes "dark" but, nonetheless very cute pictures (something in the line of Tim Burton style). The pictures are accompanying some quotes and lyrics from Évi's favorite bands and songs.
Every page within the book has tons of hidden envelopes and pockets from where the tag-like song lyrics and pictures can be pulled out (usually with the help of tiny black ribbons). Just like the girl with the clocks image that flips up to show some Pink Floyd lyrics.
Also there is a ribbon on the left that can be pulled out (attached to some Nirvana lyrics on a tag with a girl dancing on a skull:))
The pictures I used I found on the internet, for the quotes I used black paper and white pen. I also used many many types of scrap paper for this one (a list of some of these you can find at the end).
Pulling out the left side ribbon there is a tiny black lady with an umbrella. This opens up too, where you will find a Led Zeppelin quote (matching the rain theme)
This one below can be pulled out from above the silver wave framed dreamy girl image:
The next pages are revolving around topics such as craziness and chaos... The circus picture can be taken out and hides Lenny Kravitz lyrics of the song called.... Circus (surprise... surprise...). The girl on the other side who seemingly has some serious issues:) can also be opened up to reveal two well known quotes from Deep Purple and The Rasmus.
This one here is a vintage page with butterflies and of course hidden stuff.
The birdcage woman is actually an envelope that can be opened too.
Okay, the next one I messed up a bit because I mixed up the order of "can't go wrong" and "can't go on"... Thus the original meaning has changed somewhat to the negative.... :) But I decided I like it this way so I left it as it is....:)
The roses on this page are also self made from purple paper petals (Actually the same ones a few of which you can also see inside the Lavender Decoupage Box.)
The roses with the image of the girl carried by bats:) can be opened up and there are further images and quotes underneath. Also from the top an image of Little Death (my personal favorite) comes out with a matching Black Sabbath quote on the back side.
On this next page the words from Undisclosed Desire and the image too can be flipped up and you will get a different Muse song with a different image to go with it.
On the other side the lady in the graveyard can be opened up too where there are six Tim Burton inspired drawings (not by me) with matching lyrics on their backside (no photos of those unfortunately)
From above the Graveyard Lady the lace part can be pulled out which is another image of a Dreaming Girl with a Led Zeppelin quote hanging from it.
The next page is the only one in the book where nothing opens up, no hidden pockets, no nothing... Well except that the side of the page is open and there is a small booklet of quotes in it. (no photos of that one)
The girl image on the right opens too and there is a tiny pocket there with a lacy quote about where our demons hide...
This one here is the only page where the quote is on the scrap paper itself. I punched out some nice black butterflies too to go with it.
On the left page top part the lace can be pulled out and also the black lady on the right flips up to reveal another quote from Iron Maiden. The butterfly hiding behind the image can be pulled out too and is attached to that friendly looking raven:) which was hiding behind this whole page.
Yes, and this is finally the last page in the book, a rather girly one to end it all on a positive note...
Well, that was it! I really enjoyed making this one and hope you liked it too.
